Bhubaneswar: The State Action Plan (SAP) for Police Modernisation at an estimated cost of Rs 31.75 crore has been ratified by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The development came after a high-level panel of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) approved the SAP from apart from the supplementary action plan of Rs 6.35 crore on August 17.
The SAP with emphasizing on anti-Maoist operations also focuses on the improved training facilities of the police personnel in state. For a 66,000-strong police force, existing infrastructure of Odisha Police can provide training to just five per cent although the yardstick is for 10 per cent of the strength.
Similarly, the action plan also includes strengthening its weaponry. District Police will be provided a number of rubber bullets for law and order situation.
