Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offense Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch has finally caught hold of the health scam tainted doctor Motilal Gouda. Gouda accused of swindling away lakhs from the state government by means of a fake gazette notification was on run since his bail pleas was rejected on June 24.
Briefing the media on Gouda’s arrest Crime Branch Special DG BK Sharma told reporters here today that, the accused doctor was arrested on charges of forgery, cheating, criminal conspiracy, as well as causing disappearance of evidence. Gouda has a case registered against him with the EOW of Crime Branch since June 6 and a four-member team headed by IG Arun Bothra was formed to nab him some days ago, he added. Not disclosing much about the location from which the doctor was nabbed, Sharma said that, a team of EOW got specific information on his stay in Visakhapatnam-Vizianagaram and rushed their four days ago.
Reportedly, the Crime Branch team is bringing Gouda back to Odisha and is on transit now. The accused doctor would be produced before court on tomorrow and after that Crime Branch would ask the court for his remand, said a source.
Need not mention, Dr Motilal Gouda kept on serving as an Assistant Director in the state directorate of factories and boilers while the state health department included his name in the ‘list of absconders’. But much to the surprise, during his tenure as a medical officer in the health department Gouda had issued a fake gazette notification empanelling five pathological testing centers in the state to get the health check up of industrial workers—under s health insurance scheme–done there. By that he succeeded in generating huge amount of black money. According to a report, Gouda even signed a contract worth Rs 63 lakh with Navaratna PSU Nalco and was in the process of signing another worth Rs 1.02 crore when he was caught.
