HC reserves verdict on Sarathi Baba case


Cuttack : The High Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict after completing hearings on the bail petitions of the self-styled godman, Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul in connection with the case of cheating and harassing Kendrapara based Mamata Swain and her mother.

Referring to the case, earlier two other accused, Manjulata Swain and Subhalaxmi Pati were released on bail. As such, Sarathi’s lawyer demanded for his bail saying he has been continuously kept in jail for the last 15 months without a single trial. On the contrary, the court reserved the verdicts to be declared at a later date,

Sarathi was arrested by the Crime Branch on August 8, last year under Sections 120-B, 420, 467, 341, 379 and 506 of IPC alongwith Section 3 of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atricities) Act, Section 25 of Arms Act and Section 7 of theReligious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act.
