Bhubaneswar: The resignation of AICC Odisha In-Charge BK Hariprasad on Tuesday owning moral responsibility for the party’s dismal show in the recent panchayat elections in the State, it is now followed by the demand of party leaders for resignation of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prasad Harichandan from his post for the same reason.
Congress Chief Whip in the Assembly Tara Prasad Bahinipati said that Hariprasad should have resigned much before as the Congress lost many seats in the 2014 Assembly elections. He also said that the PCC President Prasad Harichandan should also resign owning moral responsibility for the party’s rout in the panchayat polls.
The demand for the changes in both posts of AICC-in-charge and PCC president has been provoking in the Odisha unit of Congress since long and much prior to the Panchayat polls.
The Congress Legislature Party, 16 MLAs including the Leader of Opposition had earlier camped in New Delhi lobbying hard with the Delhi Durbar against Prasad Harichandan demanding his ouster since last year for which they him and had even placed forth their demand before AICC vice-president and Congress heir apparent Rahul Gandhi.
While Hariprasad has resigned from both the AICC-in-charge and AICC general secretary posts, PCC president Prasad Harichandan is yet to tender his resignation.
