Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government on Monday extended the deadline for registration of farmers for paddy procurement in the state.
Earlier the government had stipulated October 25 as the deadline but the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has extended the deadline till October 31, department Minister Sanjay Das Burma said.
The development came after a month of CAG’s criticism against BJD led government which said that Odisha lacked a robust paddy procurement system with multiple frailties like lack of appropriate number of godown facilities, non intimation of actual dates of procurement to farmers and many others disordering the distribution system.
While Odisha government has always said it is well conscious of situation and is working to bring about a bolstered system which will enable farming community free license to roll.
As part of that programme, government had already made Aadhaar mandatory for procurement. Not just that it also moved a bit ahead in order to upgrade the procurement facilities by making it go online earlier this may but still registration could not be completed in due time.
