Bhubaneswar: The Government has reduced the price of textbook to 50 per cent for Class I to VIII in private schools across the state this year as compared to previous year.
“As many as 85 per cent of the total textbooks printed were consigned to depots, starting from 20th this month the textbooks will be made available for purchase at 64 centres across 30 districts of the state”, said School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.
Khordha holds the most number of centres with five. Bhadrak, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Koraput and Mayurbhanj have 3 centres and districts having two centres for textbook supply are Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Bolangir, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jagatsingpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Nabrangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sundergarh. Boudh, Devgarh, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and Sonepur have one centre each.
Reviewing the textbook supply, Mishra said “that the department has directed expedite supply of textbooks to all schools by the end of this summer vacation. From total 2, 78,47,706 textbooks, 1,27,05,156 have been already distributed to the students. The department has also instructed the DPCs to collect the textbooks directly from the depots”.
