Kolkata: Tech giant Google has tied up with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for complete virtual tour of as many as 280 monuments across the country, an official of the company said today.
The official Sanket Gupta, programme manager of Google maps said Google has tied up with the survey agency for creating a 360 degree virtual map of monuments which would be available for reference in the company maps.
Speaking of India’s importance in digital world, he said the country is among the top five users of Google. The company has launched a plethora of products in the country like offline maps view, live traffic alerts and inclusion of unknown places for the better reference of all but so far Street view has not been done due to permission dilemma.
Some most important monuments of international importance like the Taj Mahal, Victoria Memorial, Sun Temple (Konark) notably are in the list of Google’s surveillance.
