Bhubaneswar: Gold worth Rs 30 lakh has been seized at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Tuesday and two persons have been held by the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths swooped down on the suspects on the basis of an information regarding gold smuggling to Bhubaneswar.
The DRI officers intercepted two passengers who arrived here on Air Asia flight AK-31, which reached the airport at 11:25 pm.
After conduction a search operation, six pieces of gold, weighing 661 grams were recovered from a passenger who arrived from Bangkok. The arrestee hails from Kolhapur in Maharashtra.
Another person, a native of Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur arrived from Singapore via Kuala Lumpur and was found carrying 400 grams of gold cut into pieces, Additional Director General of DRI (Hyderabad Zonal Unit), MK Singh said.
