Cuttack: Gold ornaments weighing around two and half kilos were looted from an employee of a jewellery workshop in the Alisha Bazaar under Lalbag police limits on Saturday.
As per sources, the incident occurred when the employee named Sourabh Mukherjee travelling by taking the gold ornaments weighing around two and half kilos in his Activa scooter for getting the jewellery ‘916-Hallmark’ stamped in the Chemical Lane of the city. Meanwhile, a four-member gang intercepted Mukherjee and snatched the Activa in which the ornaments were kept.
The miscreants threw chili powder in his eyes and snatched the bag with gold ornaments worth Rs 70 lakh. Later, the owner of the jewellery workshop filed a complaint with the Lalbag police.
However, the police have found the Activa but for the jewellery, they are still scrutinizing the CCTV footages of various shops near the crime scene to identify the miscreants.
