Gold becomes first bollywood movie to release in Saudi Arabia

Mumbai: Akshay Kumar starrer Gold, which entered the prestigious 100 crore club has became the first ever bollywood film to release in Saudi Arabia.

The Reema Kagti directorial sports film is only the second movie after Rajinikanth’s Kaala (Tamil) to hit the theatres in the Gulf country.

Akshay recently took to Twitter to share the news. He wrote- “The story of India’s first Gold medal victory for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Happy to share, #Gold is the first ever Bollywood movie to release in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, in cinemas from today! @excelmovies @ZeeStudiosInt,.”



The film is all about Tapan Das, who holds aspirations of playing hockey as a free country. He in reality gave India’s first Olympic gold medal in 1948 Summer Olympics while battling his own personal demons and the changing ‘Independence Era’.

It stars Akshay Kumar as Tapan Das and his wife, Monobina’s character has been played by the charming actress Mouni Roy.

The film collected Rs 13.25 crores from advance bookings before its release. Gold released on 3050 screens in India and collected Rs 25.25 crores on its opening day.

First day worldwide gross of Gold was approx. Rs 38 crores. It collected Rs 10 crores on third day, taking three days combined collection to Rs 43 crores.

It became the 3rd highest opener of 2018 and best opener for Akshay Kumar. Recently, it entered the prestigious 100 crore club.
