Ganasikhyaks to be regularised, says government

Bhubaneswar: Bringing some relief for Gana Sikhyaks, the state government on Wednesday has decided to regularise the agitating gana sikhyaks (teachers) after considering the necessary modalities during a high level ministerial meeting here on Wednesday.

As per a resolution issued in this regard way back on 2013 schools which were eligible to get grants but were not included will be considered. School teachers who have been teaching continuously since last 8 years will be regularised. Besides block grant ME School students will get free uniforms.

The decision was taken at the meeting under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Pradip Amat. Other ministers like School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Panchayati Raj and Law minister Arun Sahu, Power Minister Pranab Prakash Das were also present during the meeting.

Notably, hundreds of gana sikhyaks had taken to streets sitting on dharna demanding equal pay for equal work and also protested in front of residences of six ministers since Sunday.

Though five months have passed the education department is yet to release the modalities on backdrop of a notification for regularization of jobs.

The agitating teachers have been opposing the department’s move to put OTET as one of the modalities for regularisation. They alleged that when contractual and block grant teachers have not undergone eligibility test then why for gana sikhyaks.

As many as 17,000 teachers are currently serving as gana sikhyaks in schools across the state.

After days of protests back in January 2016 the government finally sat down to discuss the issue and prepared a inter-ministerial panel for the same but even a year is about to pass there is nothing appreciable in this regard.
