Fraudster held for duping job aspirants in state capital


Bhubaneswar: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday arrested a fraudster for allegedly duping three job aspirants of over Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of providing them jobs in the railways.

Police sources said one Utpal Ranjan Behera (30) of Jagatsinghpur district was working as a private operator at the automatic ticket vending machine at general booking office of the city railway station.

Taking advantage of his engagement in the railways, Utpal collected the money from three youths promising them to provide jobs in the railways. Later, he issued them fake appointment letters. After the fraud came to light, the duped job aspirants reported the matter to the city GRP, following which the accused was arrested under various Sections of the IPC. He was forwarded to court and remanded to judicial custody. The police are investigating if any associates of Behera were involved in the fraud.
