Rourkela: Tension ran high at Kukerama village under Nuagaon block in Sundergarh district today following death of a four-year-old boy in elephant attack last night.
According to reports, a herd of three elephants had entered into the village last night. One of the pachyderms attacked the house the baby boy was sleeping in and trampled him to death.
The herd also damaged a number of houses in the locality. Forest officials rushed to the spot on being informed about the incident and launched an operation to drive away the wild animals.
Despite several incidents of life and property lose by wild elephants; no steps have been taken by the district administration for a permanent solution to the elephant menace, villagers alleged.
