Berhampur: Ganjam district’s heavyweight Congress leader and former Union Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu today joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here along with two former Congress leaders, Bhagaban Gantayat and Bikram Panda.
The three Congress leaders joined the party in presence of BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a Mishran Parva in Berhampur organised by the ruling party.
“Today, Chandrasekhar Sahu, Bikram Panda and Bhagaban Gantayat joined the party. I welcome them all to the Biju Janata Dal,” said CM Naveen Patnaik while addressing the programme.
I am delighted to work with BJD and Naveen Patnaik for the development of Ganjam district, Chandrasekhar Sahu said joining the party.
Earlier, Sahu along with Ganjam district president of Congress, Bhagaban Gantayat, and AICC member Panda had resigned from Congress on March 29 citing ‘no future’ in the party and announced to join the ruling party fold.
Following their resignation, eleven corporators of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) from Congress also quit the party.
