Cuttack: Former Director General of Police (DGP) Rabi Narayan Mahapatra passed away at a private hospital here on Thursday. He was 79 years old. He was the State’s DGP from January 18, 1994 to November 15, 1995.
After getting the news, Special DG Crime Bijay Kumar Sharma, Additional DGP Satyajit Mohanty, Mahendra Pratap, Debasish Panigrahi and other senior police officials went to his residence to pay last respect.
Mahapatra was born at Gopal village of Baleswar district on August 10, 1938 and had joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1959. During his service period he worked as Superintendent of Police in Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Cuttack districts and also as the Vigilance SP. Mahapatra was promoted to the DGP rank in 1992 and took retirement in 1996. He was also posted as the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation CMD during the last tenure of his service.
