Cuttack: As the presence of cancer-causing formalin in fish has rung an alarming bell among the people in Odisha, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Sunday conducted raids on several fish markets and godowns in the city.
The food safety squad of the health wing of the civic body conducted raids on major fish mandis in Khapuria and Krushakbazar in the city. The squad examined more than 20 fish godowns and collected samples of four fishes.
“The fish samples have been sent to a laboratory in Bhubaneswar for testing,” said CMC food safety officer Prabhakar Pradhan.
Notably, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development on July 13 had found traces of cancer-causing formalin in Pomfret fish samples procured from the Unit-IV fish market in Bhubaneswar.
