Five jawans killed after boulder hits vehicle in Arunachal Pradesh


Itanagar: At least five jawans were killed and nine others sustained critical injuries after the vehicle in which they were travelling was hit by landslide at Likabali in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

The identities of the deceased jawans were not ascertained immediately. Among the injured, one was a superintendent of police and eight were constables.

According to reports, the incident happened at around 2.30pm when a bus carrying twenty jawans of Indo Tibetan Border Police forces was heading to Basar in West Siang district. A boulder rolled down the mountain slope following the landslide and crushed the vehicle killing four jawans on the spot while one died en route hospital.

The injured jawans were undergoing treatment at the Army hospital in Likabali. Meanwhile, a joint team of ITBP and state police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Three bodies were retrieved by the rescue team with the help of the locals till the last report came in.
