Bhubaneswar: The first Swine Flu casualty of this year was reported on Saturday with the death of a person at a private hospital in the state capital.
A total of 24 patients affected with the H1N1 virus are undergoing treatment so far in the State including six persons who were tested positive on Friday.
A total of 16 throat swabs had been examined on August 4 out of which six were found positive, four from Bhubaneswar and one each from Cuttack and Sundargarh.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Pratap Jena reviewed the situation on the day at a meeting in the State Secretariat and issued necessary guidelines and instructions to all Government and private hospitals.
Jena said special measures have been taken up in all the medical college hospitals, the Capital Hospital and the District Headquarters Hospitals for the patients. Sufficient amounts of medicines have been kept in stock.
The Minister also directed to spread awareness among the people through the media. If people are careful, they can prevent from being affected by the disease.
