Bhubaneswar: Following a steep rise of fire mishaps in the State, Fire Services Department on Wednesday issued notices to as many as 26 business establishments here for violating fire safety norms.
Shopping malls, hotels, Jewellery showrooms and other establishments have been issued notices. Kalyan jewellers was first to receive the notice.
The department has set two months’ deadline for the owners of the establishments to arrange proper fire safety equipments as per the guidelines.
In case, the building owners fail to comply with the safety mechanism within the stipulated time, action will be taken against them according to Orissa fire prevention and fire safety rules of 2017, the notices read.
It is worth mentioning that the fire department had recently conducted raids at various hotels in Bhubaneswar and sealed some parts of hotels including The New Marion, Hotel Suryansh and Hotel Seetal.
The Odisha Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Rules came into force in last October that make it mandatory for hospitals, nursing homes, cinema halls and malls to adhere to fire safety norms.
