Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhy during a review meeting held here at State Secretariat on Wednesday has strictly instructed the Home and the Public Works departments to ensure required fire as well as electrical safety measures in all government health establishments by the end of April this year.
Reviewing the present status of safety measures, the Chief Secretary asked both the departments to ensure completion of required works in this regard by the end of April. However, for all government medical college and hospitals, and all District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs), these measures have to be in place by the end of this month. Till now, survey for this purpose has been completed in nearly 1000 government healthcare establishments.
The sudden outbreak of fire at the Cardiology Department of Cuttack SCB Medical College in June last year and the incident at Sum Hospital in October last year had exposed the poor fire safety norms followed by hospitals including both private and government. After the incidents, the government had asked collectors to issue guidelines on fire safety measures to be implemented by hospitals and nursing homes within six months.
