Cuttack: Thousands of farmers under the aegis of Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) today took to streets here to show their strength staging a protest in front of Cuttack collector’s office to press for several demands.
Farmers from 15 blocks of the state protested against the alleged anti-farmer policies of the Odisha Government and Centre.
Holding placards and banners in hands they took out a rally from Traffic Square and marched towards the collector’s office and staged a massive demonstration.
Reiterating the demand for price, prestige and pension, the farmers, including women, alleged that both the State Government and the Centre have remained indifferent to their long-standing demands.
“We have come here to give an ultimatum to the State Government through the collector to take immediate steps for fulfilling our long-standing demands including appropriate price for farming produces, cold storage facilities, monthly pension and Rs 5,000 per one quintal of paddy as minimum support price,” said NKS state coordinator Akshay Kumar.
He also warned to intensify the protest hitting the streets across the state and paralyse vehicular movement if the government fails to fulfil the demands of the outfit at the earliest.
