Bhubaneswar: Milk producers on Monday have poured hundreds of litres of milk on the street in front of the OMFED office here at Saheed Nagar demanding price hike for their produce.
They demanded for price of Rs 30 per litre and the fodder should be provided to them at Rs 18 per kg. The agitating farmers also demanded inclusion of milk in mid-day meal scheme (MDM) and loan at one per cent interest rate.
Besides, a group of dairy farmers under the banner of the Odisha Milk Farmers Association (OMFA), an outfit of milk producers were also seen distributing milk to people.
OMFA President Rabi Behera said that their demand includes milk price to be hiked to Rs 30 per litre, cattle feed at Rs 18 per kg, loan to farmers at one per cent and milk products to be included in mid-day meals.
He said the agitating farmers could not meet the OMFED chairman on Monday, but they are assured that their demands will be taken into consideration.
He also further informed that they would intensify their agitation if the government fails to meet their demands.
On the Contrary, OMFED Public Relation Officer Subash Tripathy has said that the State Government will take a call on it after considering various factors.
