Bhubaneswar: The sleuths of Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch today arrested one more accused in connection with misappropriation of Rs 3.10 crores funds of Odisha Construction Corporation Limited (OCCL).
The accused, Anil Kumar Ray (33), who hails from Kalgodia Sahi in Jeypore of Koraput district, currently lives in Forest park area under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar. Ray owns a firm named M/s Infinity Infra Solutions. Earlier, Biswajit Biswal, senior manager of OCCL was arrested by the EOW in connection with the fraud.
According to sources, Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) had entrusted OCCL, a state government PSU, to construct internal road of InfoValley, Bhubaneswar at a cost of 12.90 crore.
The misappropriation came to light after OCCL’s company secretary Bibhuti Bhusan Sahoo lodged a complaint against Biswal with the EOW. Following the complaint, the EOW arrested Biswal on August 28.
During investigation, it was revealed that Biswal had diverted an amount of Rs.2.10 crores out of the misappropriated amount of Rs.3.10 crores to the accounts of Ray. Ray who was working as a contractor in OCCL and was close to Biswal had spent all the amounts transferred to his account leaving a balance of rupees less than three lakh only.
It was proved that accused Biswal had entered into criminal conspiracy with Ray and diverted an amount of Rs.2.10 crores to the personal account of accused Ray and his firm with malafide intention.
Ray has been forwarded to the Court of SDJM, Bhubaneswar today. The investigation of the case is in progress.
