Bhubaneswar: After both the ruling BJD MLAs and the opposition parties went head on against crop insurance irregularities here on Friday, the state government has directed the cooperative and commercial banks to credit the entire crop insurance money to accounts of farmers in next 15 days.
Chief Secretary AP Padhi during a video conference on district wise review of the situation asked banks to ensure complete transfer of insurance money within 15 days.
Cooperative department Secretary Manoj Ahuja informed that about 11, 61,000 farmers will get crop insurance against 2015 season’s kharif crop loss which will amount to Rs 1776 crore.
Padhi instructed the collectors to keep strict vigil on the situation and review it on a daily basis with cooperative and commercial banks and send the updated reports to Principal Secretary of Cooperation through watsapp.
He also reviewed the situation on the distribution of compensation amount on 2015 drought saying that very soon Rs 83 crore will soon be given to farmers at the rate of Rs 100 per quintal of paddy.
Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, SRC Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Finance Secretary T K Pandey, Water resources Secretary Pradip Kumar Jena among others were present during the meeting.
