Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Thursday discussed some reform measures to enhance agriculture by expediting irrigation, mega LI projects, and agricultural productivity. Discussions on the same were tabled at an agricultural cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here at the Secretariat.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Secretary AP Padhi said the government will lay more emphasis on irrigation and enhance the canal and mega lift irrigation schemes so as to expedite measures for fighting water crisis during the dry season while also increase agricultural productivity by increasing volume of water supply to crop lands.
Similarly, a new plant of OMFED is also being approved which would be set up on the outskirts of the city.
Special policies for animal husbandry would be formulated and a drought management cell for Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) would be established.
Notably, this was the third agricultural cabinet meeting after it was set up earlier this year. Ten ministers including Finance, Revenue and Disaster Management, Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, Cooperative, Panchayati Raj, Water Resources, Energy and Food and Consumer were present during the meeting.
