Bhubaneswar: Eminent litterateur and tribal language researcher Dr Khageswar Mohapatra passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 84 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. He had been admitted to the hospital six days ago as he was suffering from pneumonia.
A native of Kosalpur in Jajpur district, Mohapatra was a gold medalist from Utkal University and did his PhD on Odia tribal language and culture from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan in 1970.
Mohapatra had won several awards, including Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award. ‘Samalochana ra diga o diganta’, ‘Charjyagitika’, ‘Pratna-Odia’, ‘Odia lipi o bhasa’ are some of the notable books written by him.
Mohapatra was director of Odisha Tribal Museum and a faculty member of Odia Department of Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. He was founder of Odia Department of Delhi University.
