Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Sundergarh village
Sundergarh: Panic gripped the residents of K.Balang village under Banki forest range in Sundergarh district after a herd of wild elephants strayed into the village last night.
According to sources, around 30 elephants from the neighbouring Jharkhand forest ventured into the human settlement in search of food last night. The pachyderms destroyed the many house and standing crops in the nearby villages.
On being informed, the forest department officials reached the village and drove the elephants away from the village. The herd then moved into the nearby forest.
Meanwhile, the locals have urged the forest officials to take immediate steps to keep away the elephants from the village.
