Elephant carcass found in Bargarh’s Lakhanpur forest
Bargarh: The carcass of an elephant was recovered by the forest department officials from Dejuan village under Lakhanpur forest range in Bargarh district on Thursday.
On being informed, forest department officials reached the village and launched a probe into the matter.
Although the exact cause behind the death is yet to be ascertained, the forest officials suspect that the elephant might have been killed by poachers as its tusks was found missing.
On September 27, a headless elephant carcass was found near Pravasuni Reserve Forest range in Tileibani in Deogarh district and the pachyderm’s tusk was found missing, which point towards poachers active presence in the forest range.
