New Delhi: India is the largest democratic country in the world. Here over 1,900 political parties are registerd, but over 400 political parties are never contested any election said Chief Election Comissioner (EC).
According to EC chief Nasim Zaidi these could be conduits for turning black money to white. However, the EC has started an exercise to strike off such parties from its list.
After being removed from the list these political parties will be unable to get income tax exemption which is entitled to them being a political party. The Central Election Commission has asked chief electoral officers of all states to send details of all registered political parties that have never contested any election. Also, EC chief Zaidi has asked to give report of these parties’ funding.
