Srinagar: An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the tremor struck at 12:41 pm and had Latitude of 33.1 and Longitude of 75.6 E.

These latest tremors have occurred days after a major earthquake was reported in Afghanistan, with its impact felt in Pakistan and northern parts of India.

On January 31, mild tremors were felt in northern India after an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the richter scale hit Afghanistan, leading to the death of one child in Pakistan.

Nineteen others were reportedly injured. As per US Geological Survey (USGS) the epicentre of the earthquake was in the Hindu Kush region. The quake hit near Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan in the Hindu Kush Mountains at the depth of 191 kilometres, the survey had said.

Earlier this week, a powerful earthquake shook Mexico City on Friday, triggering the capital`s quake alarm system and causing buildings to sway.

Mexico`s National Seismological Service put the magnitude of the quake at 7.0, and seismic monitor network Sky Alert said the quake was felt across the states of Guerrero, Oaxaca and Puebla.
