Cuttack: Odisha’s newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma today took over the charge from departing DGP KB Singh at the state police headquarters here.
Soon after he officially took the charge of DGP, he was given a guard of honour at the police headquarters.
Vigilance director RP Sharma, 57, was on Wednesday appointed as the DGP of Odisha, according to a home department notification. Sharma replaced Kunwar Brajesh Singh, who had been holding the top post since November 2015.
Singh got new posting as chairman and managing director of Odisha state road transport corporation (OSRTC), the notification read.
Sharma, who earlier served as the commissioner of police here between August 2013 and January 2016, had received pat from Centre for having introduced a number of innovative schemes, mostly for women safety in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Sharma a day before assuming the charge on Thursday said, “Prevention of crimes and crackdown on criminals will be my priority,” said Sharma.
Meanwhile, the state government transferred Special DG (Crime Branch) B K Sharma and appointed him as DG (prisons) by sending ADG (prisons) Arun Kumar Ray to the police headquarters in Cuttack.
