Bhubaneswar: In what could be a big diwali bonanza for state, Odisha Government on Friday decided to implement the seventh central pay commission.
A fitment committee will be set to work out the modalities to implement the recommendations of the pay commission, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said to media persons at Secretariat here.
If the implementation comes into effect it will benefit more than four lakh state government officials and about three lakh pensioners.
Earlier on Friday, the Union Government gave its cabinet nod to fatter allowances for government officials by approving recommendations of the seventh pay commission. Under the new scale of pay, it has hiked Dearness Allowance (DA) by about 2 per cent.
The allowances which contribute about 63 per cent in the pay hike recommendation will be implemented with retrospective effect from August 2016.
