Bhubaneswar: The Income Tax Department (IT) today in a press meet revealed that the department has received data regarding bank account deposits of post demonetisation period analyzed by advanced software of India’s Finance Ministry.
As per the latest data available with IT department, as many as 1092 persons in Odisha have deposited more than Rs 50 lakh cash in their multiple accounts. The department has categorized these depositors as P-1 category, giving utmost priority for verification.
Similarly, another 3080 persons have been categorized as P-2 and P-3, on the basis of deposit amounts.
The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax of Odisha Shyama Prasad Choudhry, while adressing a press meet today said, in this scenario, deep investigation has been started in all these accounts, depositors in their own interest should avail the softer option contained in the PRADHAN MANTRI GARIB KALYAN YOJANA-2016 and pay an amount of only 49.9% rather than wait to be forced to pay at a hefty rate of 77.25% or 87.25% or even at 107% whichever may be decided.
