Bhubaneswar: Problems keep troubling the Balijatra event scheduled to start from November 14, with the fresh demonetization issue of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 has again added to the woes of the traders.
While earlier National Green Tribunal (NGT) clearance had casted doubts on the future of this year’s event, followed by unprecedented low pressure and depression which delayed the process of stall booking for Balijatra and now demonetization of the notes has added another troublesome time for the one of the most anticipated festival.
As per the sources, the event which aims to make a business of around Rs 100 crores within a stretch of seven days is in apprehension as demonetization has raised doubts of the free will spending spree by people. Since for some days from now the financial situation would be tight enough the traders are sitting with their finger crossed waiting with anticipation.
Since the conditions do not look so good, people might not look to enjoy the fest which might badly affect the business, said a local trader.
The stall booking was closed for Wednesday since banks were closed. The bookings for old stationers were ought to finished but looking at the inconvenience it has been extended for one more day. Subsequently, the stall booking for the new businessmen will start from November 11. Around 600 stall bookings are completed till now, sources said.
