Bhubaneswar: After a month of the demonetisation decision of the Modi led governmnet, the Odisha Assembly saw pandemonium on Friday with the ruling BJD as well as Congress MLAs targetting BJP members in the House over the issue. While the BJP MLAs sat silent, the deputy speaker adjourned the House from 11.52 am to 3 pm.
As has been the norm for Congress on ‘Sundergarh’ issue as well as the Malkangiri JE issue, chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati raised the issue first. Soon, Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra joined in asking why the Centre hasn’t taken appropriate action even after the Chief Minister wrote to the Finance Ministry to make provisions for people in rural and tribal pockets affected by demonetisation.
Soon, Congress MLAs assembled at the well of the house while they were joined by some BJD MLAs in the protest over the issue. While BJD MLA Samir Dash said that the Modi government failed in its demonetisation policy, Amar Satpathy also criticised the move for impacting farmers and rural people most.
The BJP members in the House kept silent over the issue.
Following the pandemonium, the deputy speaker Sananda Marndi had to adjourn the House.
