Bhubaneswar: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday directed the Forest and Environment department secretary to constitute a committee to inquire into alleged smuggling of minor mineral products from Dankari Hills in Jajpur district and take action within one month.

The green body said the committee will have members from state pollution control board, forest department official and Jajpur collector, among others. The tribunal asked the official to visit the place and take action as per law. The official was given one month time by the tribunal to submit the report.

The NGT directive came in response to a petition filed by rights activist Sarbeswar Beura. The next hearing of the case has been posted to December 7.

Notably, senior BJD leader and MLA Damodar recently in an editorial had mentioned about loot of minor mineral products from Dankari Hills by local MLAs and administrative officials.
