Visakhapatnam: The cyclonic storm Vardah is expected to cross the Bay of Bengal coast in the next two days.
With meteorology experts stating that cyclone Vardah will make landfall close to Nellore or Ongole on December 12, a high alert has been sounded for Kavali, Allur, Chinnaganjam and their surrounding areas as they stand to be the most affected by the storm.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday conducted a teleconference with officials of various departments and directed them to take all precautionary measures.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the cyclone is currently 840 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam. The sea continued to be very rough around the Andhra coast. The cyclonic storm is very likely to maintain its peak intensity up to evening of December 11, 2016, NDMA sources said.
