Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha police arrested two Nigerian nationals from New Delhi on Sunday for their alleged involvement in cyber crimes.
The duo was brought to the city. They were wanted in connection with several online frauds in Odisha and Maharashtra.
According to sources, a team of Crime Branch Cyber Cell following a tipoff about the presence of the fraudsters in the national capital conducted raids and nabbed them.
Speaking about their modus operandi the Crime Branch officials said, “The criminals used to pose themselves as lottery officials and lure gullible people in Odisha and Maharashtra with lucrative offers and prizes. After obtaining the bank account details of the people, they withdrew money from the accounts.”
The criminals defrauded people in Odisha to the tune of Rs 10.50 lakh. Both of them were in the most wanted list of Odisha and Maharashtra police since long, the sources added.
The CB officials further interrogated the accused persons to ascertain whether more people were involved in the online racket.
