Cops-lawyers spat in Cuttack: PCR van set ablaze

Cuttack: The ongoing conflict between police and lawyers took an ugly turn today after some agitating lawyers allegedly set ablaze a PCR van near Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) office in Cuttack today afternoon.

Earlier today, the lawyers affiliated to the Orissa High Court Bar Association had boycotted the court proceedings over the alleged assault on a lawyer by the cops on Tuesday morning  near Nua Bazaar bridge.

The bar association had convened their general body meeting at 10.15 am today and unanimously resolved to abstain from the court work today and tomorrow as a mark of protest against alleged assault of a lawyer by Chauliaganj police.

The bar association will hold another meeting tomorrow at 1.30 pm where the lawyers will decide the next course of action, a release issued by the association said. The lawyers have threatened to intensify their protest until action is taken against the accused policemen.
