Congress urges Twin City denizens not to drive vehicles for six-hour on Monday

Odisha Congress

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Congress on Saturday took a jibe at the Union Government over the steep hike in the prices of petrol and diesel and urged the people of the Twin City Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to stop driving their vehicles from 6 am to 12 pm on June 4.

Briefing media persons at the Congress Bhawan here, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik also said that his party will give the Odisha Bandh call on Mahanadi issue very soon.

Patnaik also blamed both the Odisha government and the BJP government at the Centre for the Mahanadi issue.

“During his Odisha visit, Modi did not give any assurance to the people of Odisha to solve the Mahanadi issue as he is directly or indirectly supporting Chhattisgarh following the BJP rule in the neighbouring state,” he claimed.

The PCC chief also came down heavily on the BJD government and said that the state government did not take any measures to conserve Mahanadi water and remained silent till 2015. With the Assembly elections round the corner, the state government has started shedding crocodile tears to win the support of the people, he pointed out.

It seems that Congress changes its ideologies with change of state unit president as the party was completely mum under the leadership of Prasad Harichandan on the issue, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb stated in his reaction to Patnaik’s statement.

All the barrages and dam projects on Mahanadi were taken up by Chhattisgarh during UPA regime. So, the Congress should first answer the people of the state, said BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.
