Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Speculations rife on OPCC’s change of guard after the state Congress leaders ended up meeting with AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi today at his Delhi Durbar. However, leaders including the aspiring candidate for the PCC seat Niranjan Patnaik are tight-lipped to reveal the developments and outcome of the meet.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi had called a meeting of senior party leaders from Odisha on September 5 apparently to discuss a shuffle in the state party unit and draw up an action plan to strengthen the party.

Between 30 and 35 leaders, including Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan and Congress Legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra, attended the meeting.

The meeting with the high command came after a member committee of the AICC, led by former Union minister Jitendra Singh, had visited the state last month and met several leaders and workers to understand their views on the demand for the replacement of Harichandan as the OPCC chief.

A three-member committee of the AICC, led by former Union minister Jitendra Singh, had visited the state last month and met several leaders and workers to understand their views on the demand for the replacement of Harichandan as the OPCC chief.

The team, which included two Congress MPs Tamradhwaj Sahu and Gourav Gogoi, had submitted their report to Rahul and are believed to have suggested measures to strengthen the support base of the party that is dwindling fast in the state.
