Communal violence erupts in Cuttack; Section 144 Imposed

Cuttack: At least 10 police personnel and as many locals were injured as communal tension erupted following a clash between Narendrapur and Kukudiapada village in Nemala police limits in Cuttack on Monday.

A police jeep was torched and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC clamped at Narendrapur following the clash. Two platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.

According to sources, Sonu Behera and Biku Behera of Narendrapur had been at loggerheads for long which took an ugly turn today morning. The duo got into a heated argument on the issue of overtaking on the road. One of them called some of his associates from Kakudiapada village. Later, they barged into the other youth’s house and attacked him. A woman and a minor boy were also injured in the attack.

Later, the locals accompanied by a few members of Bajrang Dal staged a road blockade near the minority community slum Kakudiapada village by burning tyres.

On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators. However, a group of people torched a police vehicle.
