Cuttack: Parks in the Millenium City that have been lying in neglect since long might see better days soon. Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will develop four parks in the city and improve the infrastructure and facilities in many of the city parks including exclusive children’s parks.
As per sources, there are around 30 parks in the city lacking basic facilities which any park should have. There is no proper sitting arrangement in the park. Visitors can only sit on the patches of green grass. As such, many a parks including Biswanath Pandit park at Khan Nagar, Gopabandhu Park at Buxi Bazaar, Biju Pattnaik park at CDA have been closed and some are running in a very miserable state.
CMC Commissioner Gyana Das has said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for renovation of parks under ‘Amrut Yojana’ scheme has been prepared by Engineers India Limited engaged by Housing and Urban Development Department. DPR is also prepared for the development of new parks at Chahata Nagar in Tulasipur, Sishu Bhavan, Andarpur and Mahanadi Vihar.
While around Rs 3.5 crores funds has been allocated towards the development of the new parks under ‘Amrut Yojana’, CMC would re-develop eight other parks under the same scheme including Ramadevi Sishu Udyaan (Near Sunshine field), Sarangdhar park at Jholasahi, Biren Mitra Park, Jai Prakash Narayan park, Khan Nagar park and others.
Among the proposed renovation projects, CMC would set up play equipment for kids at a number of parks, set up more benches for seating visitors. Creation of artificial fountains, development of grass carpet as well as food courts around the parks would also be made.
