Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the currency situation in Odisha with senior officers and bankers at the Secretariat. CM Patnaik advised bankers to ensure that people exchange and deposit the currency in a hassle free manner.
The CM said there are 4400 Gram Panchayats that have no banking facilities hence there should be all necessary arrangements like temporary kiosks and mobile counters for exchange of currency. He ordered to constitute a monitoring group under the chairmanship of principal finance secretary Tuhinkant Pandey to review the situation daily.
The monitoring group will include principal secretaries of Panchayati Raj and Social Security as members while RBI and SBI officials and State Level Bankers Committee will be convenor.
Finance minister Pradeep Amat, Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi, Development Commissioner Balakrishnan, finance secretary Tuhinkant Pandey were present along with secretary Panchayati Raj and Social Welfare. Police DG KB Singh was also present and reviewed law and order situation at banks and ATMs in the state.
RBI General manager Sarada Prasanna Mohanty assured to provide more Rs 100 notes to the state.
