Bhadrak: At least 12 students had a narrow escape today in Odisha after a coal-laden vehicle hit the school van they were travelling in.
The accident occurred this morning near the Badamahara Chhak on Dhamra-Basudevpur Road in Bhadrak district.
Although the van was damaged in the mishap, all the students in the vehicle escaped unhurt.
According to reports, the driver of the pickup van lost his balance and hit the school van from the side while the students were on their way to the Bharatiya Vidya Niketan School in the town.
Tension ran high in the area as the teachers and students of the school along with some villagers staged a road blockade at the spot following the incident.
They protested the plying of coal-laden vehicles through Dhamra-Basudevpur Road holding them responsible for regular accidents in this route. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road for hours following the blockade.
Police reached the spot pacified the angry locals.
