Bhubaneswar: The people of the state are waking up to freezing mornings as the temperature in the capital city was recorded the coldest in ten years on Sunday. With the mercury dropping across the state, cold wave conditions are setting in.

The weather office on Monday said cold wave will continue for the next 3 to 4 days in the state. The capital city felt the chill as night temperature recorded the lowest maximum temperature of 12.7 degree Celsius on 15 December in the last ten years.

The weather in the city on Sunday was as cold as it was in 2010 when the minimum temperature recorded was 10.5 degree celcius. Many places of the state have experienced single digit maximum temperature, the district of Phulbani recording the lowest at 4.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

As per the Met officials, winds from North and North-West side have led to a significant drop in temperature. It is this persistent flow of cold winds that caused the mercury to drop in many parts of the state.
