City airport to have star hotel by 2020

Bhubaneswar: A star-hotel on the periphery of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) would soon be a reality. The Airport Authority of India has chosen three airports in the country where three-star hotels will be established by 2020. The hotels will be developed at Kolkata, Amritsar and Bhubaneswar as part of the ‘integrated development of City-side land’ of airports.

The AAI has recently invited request for proposals (RFPs) from prospective bidders for the project which will be taken up on a public-private-partnership mode. “The Biju Patnaik International Airport is one of the three airports for which RFPs for development, operation and maintenance of three-star hotel at an estimated cost of `35 crore have been invited,” BPIA Director SC Hota said.

The proposed hotel will have 100 rooms with a carpet area ranging between 180 sqft and 540 sqft. There will be food and beverages facility, conference facility for 250 passengers and other allied facilities, including sufficient car park area. The project once operational, will facilitate 24 hours check in and check out, apart from providing convenient accommodation for airline crew, Hota added.
