Chennai: Seventeen persons, who had allegedly sexually assaulted an 11-year-old hearing impaired girl, were thrashed by a group of angry lawyers on the premises of a court here on Tuesday.
The arrested persons included a liftman, security guards, plumbers, electricians and other maintenance staff working at the apartment complex in Ayanavaram locality had sexually assaulted the minor girl multiple times over a period of seven months.
Amid the shock and outrage over the incident, the accused were arrested and produced before the women’s court on Tuesday. When the accused were being escorted by police, the angry lawyers punched and kicked them.
According to sources, the girl who lived in Ayanavaram locality with her family was sedated with injections, drug-laced soft drinks and made to sniff a powder by the accused before they sexually assaulted her. The accused persons also videographed themselves in the act.
Meanwhile, the members of Madras High Court Advocates Association have refused to represent the accused in the case and sought stringent punishment for them.
The court remanded all the accused in police custody till July 31.
