Bhubaneswar: The Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) has planned to organise a range of events on the eve of International Day of Persons with Disability on December 3 here in the city. SSEPD Director Manasi Nimbhal on Wednesday said that the events to mark the occasion will include marathon, exhibition, film festival on disability awareness, photography competition and cultural events.
Beginning from December 1, a film festival at INOX in the city will be organised with the screening of movies like, ‘Goonj’, Goonga Pehelwan, etc. That apart, audio books will also be distributed to the differently-abled students on the occasion. A total of 120 visually-challenged students will be provided with Job Access With Speech software-enabled laptops.
On December 2 and 3, a two-day exhibition will be conducted here at Unit-I Adivasi Ground where various NGOs and other agencies will exhibit products and schemes towards welfare of the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Simultaneously, on December 3 a marathon is slated to be held at 8:30 am from Kalinga Stadium in the city for PwDs, senior citizens, athletes, students and general public. More than 3000 participants are expected to take part in the event. The marathon being categorized under three segments including one km run for PwDs, five km run for students and ten km run for athletes, the prize money has been fixed to Rs 25000, 20000 and Rs 15000 respectively.
Sportspersons like, Giriraj Singh, Rinku and Rampal and Bollywood singer Sona Mohapatra are likely to attend the event.
