New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has allowed schools to set up permanent shops on campus for sale of students’ stationery along with ‘other material’ and distribution of NCERT books.
Schools are allowed to place indent for purchase of NCERT books directly through its website for distribution among their students and for this purpose, said a circular of CBSE issued to schools.
A tuck shop may be opened inside the premises of the schools. Stationery and other material required by students are also allowed to be sold from this ‘tuck’ shop, it added.
This is a complete U-turn from its April circular, which prohibited schools from indulging in, what it termed as, ‘commercialization’. This latest decision by CBSE has come as a major relief for parents and schools, which considered presence of such shops or stalls as a big convenience.
